Was Snape rised in the Riddle house?
by Erin

There are clues to support it. When Lupin told Harry about Dementors he said they live in dark, filthy, decaying places and that Muggles can’t see them but they can feel their presence. In chapter one of Goblet of Fire the Riddle house is described as all of those things and new owners never stayed long because it felt ‘nasty’. They can’t have felt this about Frank, the gardener, like they claimed for he was innocent. It was Tom who killed the Riddles. Were Dementors secretly there?

What makes me think that Snape lived there? Well the memory Harry saw of Snape sitting in a dark bedroom shooting down flies. The windows of the Riddle house were boarded up and flies live and breed around decay. Harry also thought that Snape had the stringy pallid look of a plant kept in the dark.

The question is why was Snape in the Riddle house. I believe this is why Dumbledore is reluctant to give Snape the DADA post. JKR said that Albus doesn’t give the DADA post to Severus because he’s afraid that it would bring out the worst in poor Sev. She wouldn’t say anymore than that in fear that it would give too much away. Rowling said she had to be careful.

What if Snape is one of Voldemort’s experiments in immortality? We’ve never been told what these are. I think Snape is the result of an affair that Mr. Black, Sirius’ dad, had with a Muggle. I think Sev was given to Voldemort in an attempt to avoid a scandal for the pure-blood loving Black family. Albus said that Voldemort’s ascent to power was marked by disappearances. Severus and his mother could have been 2 of these that went unnoticed by the Ministry because they were only supposedly Muggles. Voldemort could be planning to use Sev as Tom tried to use Ginny in Chamber of Secrets. Hence why he calls his followers Death Eaters. JKR said that fans should be wondering why Dumbledore didn’t try to kill Voldemort in Order of the Phoenix and also how the Dark Lord managed to survive on the night he tried to kill Harry.

What if Snape’s life is already tied to Voldemort’s and to kill Voldy would be to risk killing Snape? Albus would want to avoid this if he could find a way to break the tie. Also picture that Voldemort was possessing Snape on the night he killed the Potters. The rebounding curse would have knocked him from Snape’s body and left the Dark Lord with only the ability to possess others has he had been doing at the time of his defeat.

There is already a major clue that Snape was the snake that Voldermort was possessing on the night he attacked Mr. Weasley. Afterall, the poison the snake injected into Weasley left his wounds open. Remember Albus telling Harry in regards to Snape that some wounds run too deep for the healing? How else did the snake disappear? It simply turned back into Snape. It explains Albus going to the silver instrument after hearing of Mr. Weasley’s attack. The instrument issued a smoke snake. Dumbledore replied 'Yes, yes naturally but in essence divided?' The snake than split in 2. It would also shed light on Sev having Draco use the snake spell on Harry in COS and his shrewd and calculating look after Harry had told the snake to lay off Justin. The Black’s crest is of a snake. This would almost positively prove that the Asphodel and Wormwood question is a Sev/Lily hint.

If Voldemort planned on permanently using Snape, sheding his skin as a snake does, it would explain why Snape told James, 'You wait...' He knew what the Dark Lord had planned and knew that one day he would have his revenge.

Speaking of James... I wonder if he stole the invisibility cloak from Severus. If Snape did live in the supposedly vacant Riddle house Voldemort would not want him to be spotted. It would make sense if Voldy had the cloak more than James. Invisibiltiy cloaks are rare and valuable. Dumbledore has never said that the cloak truly belonged to James, only that he left it in his possession. James seems to have a habit of stealing: the golden snitch, food from the kitchen. And think of what the word Marauder means. Did poor Snape get punished for having lost the cloak and this is why he initially hated James? It would hurt Snape even more when James stole Lily from him. I believe in the whole theory that James had Lily under the Imperius curse and that Lily loved Snape.

If Snape lived in the Dementor ridden Riddle house it would almost prove 100% that he was the awful boy who was talking to Lily about Dementors. I also believe that Snape owns the Riddle house and keeps Frank on to keep the gardens beautiful and healthy. I think that Lilies are planted around the house in rememberance of the woman Snape loved and lost.

It would be the ultimate heartbreak if Voldemort used Snape to kill Lily. Albus may have found Snape at Godric’s Hollow and had to take care of him so he left Hagrid in charge of Harry. Dumbledore would have known that Snape would have been prosecuted and maybe even killed for his connection to Voldemort. Snape was 22 when he first started teaching at Hogwarts. What if he simply, like Hagrid years before, had nowhere else to go?

The night Harry first came to Hogwarts he had a dream where Snape was laughing like Voldemort, followed by the flash of green he always asccociated with his parents death. When he woke up he couldn’t remember the dream. Is Harry under a memory charm to make him forget the events of that night?

Is this why Harry’s scar has been hurting from Occlumency lessons with Snape because once again Sev has had to be close to the Dark Lord on Dumbledore’s orders?

I think James tricked Snape into teaching him the Imperius curse in exchange for rescuing him from werewolf Lupin. Snape was helpless to do anything when he realized Lily was under the curse because of his connection with Voldemort. Voldemort found out what James was doing and blackmailed him into being a Death Eater. Wormtail knew this and that’s why he told Harry that James’ would have understood his betrayl. James introduced Wormtail to Voldemort because Wormtail was so in love with James that he always knew what Potter was up to. When James went into hiding it was a betrayl to the Dark Lord and by Voldemorts rules, it being a lifetime of service or death, James had to die. That’s why James’ death offered no protection to either Lily or Harry.

I wonder if a dark curse can’t be used against a dark curse. Was Harry under the Imperius curse? Would this explain his immunity to it? Also in GOF Harry said he felt the feeling of having his thoughts wiped clean 3 times in his life. Mad Eye Moody was one and so was Voldemort what was the other time? When Voldemort used the Avada Kedavra curse on Harry he was unaware that the boy was already under the Imperius curse. The curse rebounded and left Voldy defeated. This is another thing that stumped Voldy about Harry that night.

I think that had Snape been allowed to love Lily he would have been able to stop Voldemort’s plan to use him for immortality. Voldy couldn’t use Harry because he was full of love. However, when Lily was taken from him all Snape was left with was pain and regret. Could Snape be the only one able to defeat the Dark Lord because he in truth is his equal? I think Harry will have to go back in time to change the past and this is why Cedric’s death and the choice between what’s right and easy will play such a major part. There’s a room in the department of mysteries full of time and Hermione did tell Harry that wizards have gone back in time and accidentally killed themselves or made it so they were never born at all. Will Harry have to be the hero not by being the boy who lived but rather the boy who had never been born at all?
